The UODO's open letter to the authorities of the Facebook Poland

The President of the Personal Data Protection Office sent a letter to the authorities of the Facebook Poland. This is the result of numerous reports on the leakage of the Polish citizens’ personal data, users of the Facebook.com social network, which took place at the beginning of April 2021.

In the letter, the President of the Personal Data Protection Office (UODO) asked to take steps in order to limit the risk of unauthorised use of personal data by offering all Polish users of the platform a service enabling them to check whether they have been affected by the data breach.

According to the President of the UODO, data leakage from the Facebook.com poses a huge threat to the privacy of many individuals. The personal data which was made available may be used not only to send spam or to conduct fraudulent telemarketing, but also for criminal purposes. Therefore, as pointed out by the President of the UODO, it is important to comprehensively explain the circumstances of the relevant case.
