Seventh Webinar in the ‘Certification in Data Protection’ Series

In September 2024, the Polish SA is planning to hold the seventh webinar in the ‘Certification in Data Protection’ series.

We would like this upcoming event to serve as a summary of the six previous meetings, held between December 2023 and May 2024, during which:

• The fundamentals of certification were discussed: legal frameworks, documents issued by the EDPB, the subject of certification, and the participants in the certification process were identified (webinar held on 12.12.2023);
• The certification mechanism and the procedure for approving the certification criteria were explained (webinar held on 30.01.2024);
• At the request of the participants of the January webinar, a thorough comparison was made between codes of conduct and certification. Additionally, an update on the progress of developing these codes was provided, and the extent of cooperation with communities working on these codes of conduct was discussed, even if these communities have not yet submitted these codes for official approval (webinar held on 26.02.2024);
• Certification criteria were explained, including how to properly prepare them. Additionally, it was unveiled what the subject of the EDPB opinion No 07/2022 under Article 64 of the GDPR is (webinar held on 27.03.2024);
• An overview of the transfer tools provided for in Article 46 of the GDPR was presented, and the issue of certification as a transfer tool was explained (webinar held on 24.04.2024);
• The topic of accreditation of certification bodies was discussed by a representative of the Polish Centre for Accreditation, an entity authorized (under Article 12(1) of  the Act of 10 May 2018 on the Protection of Personal Data) to grant accreditation within the meaning of Article 43 of the GDPR.

Details on the date and time, as well as the agenda of the September webinar in the ‘Certification in Data Protection’ series, will be published at a later stage on the Polish SA’s website. The event will also be held online.
