The Act on the Protection of Whistleblowers. The President of the Polish SA invites you to a seminar
On 7 August, the President of the Personal Data Protection Office together with the Social Team of Experts to the President of the Personal Data Protection Office will organise a seminar entitled "Practical problems in the application of the provisions of the The Act on the Protection of Whistleblowers from the perspective of the GDPR. A contribution to the discussion on the doubts raised during the public consultations."
The Act on the Protection of Whistleblowers of 14 June 2024 implements an EU directive into the Polish legal system that aims to strengthen the rule of law through better law enforcement. The Act introduces protection for whistleblowers, inter alia persons who provide information about violations of the law in the context related to employment. Data protection is an important element of the whistleblower protection system, but the adopted regulations may raise doubts in many aspects.
During the seminar, the President of the Personal Data Protection Office, Mirosław Wróblewski, together with representatives of the Social Team of Experts to the President of the Personal Data Protection Office and external experts, will indicate – on the basis of the submitted comments – in which aspects the interpretation of the provisions raises the greatest doubts and what are the possible directions of interpretation and arguments in favour of individual variants of interpretation. As a result of the seminar discussion, written explanations will be systematically published on the Personal Data Protection Office’s website, taking into account the presented directions of interpretation. The formula of these explanations will also be determined during the seminar.
As Mirosław Wróblewski, President of the Personal Data Protection Office, pointed out, "The Personal Data Protection Office will watch over issues concerning whistleblowers. We are in constant contact with the organisation's DPOs on this matter and through mutual cooperation we will recommend certain solutions. We will also look at how the Act on the Protection of Whistleblowers is applied. All signals and comments received as part of public consultations are a tool for the Personal Data Protection Office to promote good practices and good solutions."
The seminar will take place on August 7 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in a hybrid formula. We invite everyone interested to participate online:
An introduction to the topic will be presented by the President of the Personal Data Protection Office, Mirosław Wróblewski, and the Chairman of the Social Team of Experts to the President of the Personal Data Protection Office, Mirosław Gumularz Ph.D, who will briefly present the most problematic issues that arose as part of the public consultations.
