Meeting with representatives of the Union of Voivodeships of the Republic of Poland
On October 21, 2024, a meeting was held at the headquarters of the Personal Data Protection Office with representatives of the Union of Voivodeships of Poland.
Konrad Komornicki, Deputy President of the Personal Data Protection Office, emphasized the importance of cooperation in ensuring an adequate level of personal data security. "Establishing proper procedures and safeguards is a guarantee of development that includes both the private and public sectors," he stressed in his opening remarks.
During a series of brief presentations and speeches, Personal Data Protection Office representatives discussed complaints submitted to the office regarding local government units and identified the most important issues raised with the Office. They spoke about violations reported to the President of the Personal Data Protection Office related to the actions of local government units. The Personal Data Protection Office representatives highlighted the importance of risk analysis, which, when coupled with properly developed procedures, could clearly identify vulnerabilities and risks related to personal data protection. As examples of improving such processes, they mentioned regularly conducted training for employees and ensuring the encryption of data storage devices.
The participants also discussed the creation of a code of conduct for local government units. The aim is for the code to serve as a kind of roadmap to raise the level of personal data protection. The representatives of the Office encouraged active participation in consultations regarding the code.
The meeting also addressed issues related to technological advancements, including the development of information technology systems.
This was another meeting with representatives of local government units. Through such meetings, the Personal Data Protection Office aims to emphasize the importance of maintaining contact with local governments regarding personal data protection. Large amounts of data are processed at various levels of local government, and ensuring proper care for this data is of utmost importance.
As part of the discussion, the meeting participants spoke about the challenges associated with personal data protection, pointing out that local government units, both as data controllers and as representatives of public administration, play an extremely important role as organizers of social life. "Better organization and security, in turn, translates into the level of trust citizens have in the state," said Deputy President of the Personal Data Protection Office, Konrad Komornicki, summarizing the discussion.
The meeting was attended by individuals holding managerial positions and data protection officers from the Marshal Offices.
