In 2025, we will celebrate the Personal Data Protection Day for the nineteenth time

The Personal Data Protection Day was established by the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe to commemorate the anniversary of the opening for signature of Convention 108 of the Council of Europe – the first legally binding international instrument protecting privacy in the digital age.

19th Data Protection Day in Brussels

On 28 January 2025, the Council of Europe, the CPDP conferences and the European Data Protection Supervisor (EDPS) invite you to celebrate Data Protection Day in Brussels with a special edition of the CPDP – Data Protection Day: A New Mandate for Data Protection.

The conference will address challenges in the area of new technologies, threats to privacy and other fundamental rights, as well as innovation and regulatory frameworks.

The conference in Brussels will be attended by the President of Personal Data Protection Office Mirosław Wróblewski, Deputy President Agnieszka Grzelak, as well as the management of the International Cooperation Department: Director Maria Owczarek and Deputy Director Krzysztof Król.

Venue: European Commission's Charlemagne Building in Brussels and online.

  • 28.01.2025 Celebration of the Personal Data Protection Day in Brussels at the Permanent Representation of the Republic of Poland to the European Union (Rue Stevin 139, 1000 Brussels). On this occasion, the Permanent Representation of the Republic of Poland to the EU and the Ministry of Digital Affairs, in cooperation with the Council of Europe, the CPDP and the European Data Protection Supervisor, are organising a debate on new technologies. Mirosław Wróblewski, President of the Personal Data Protection Office, will speak in the panel: "Do robots have personal data?: future of personal data protection in the age of AI and new technologies' development

Main celebrations in Poland – January 23, 2025

The main celebration of the 19th Personal Data Protection Day will take place on January 23, 2025 in Warsaw. It will be inaugurated by the conference "Risk assessment and personal data protection" devoted to the discussion of the concept of risk in legal terms, risk management in cybersecurity and risk in the area of personal data protection.

The conference is organised by the President of the Personal Data Protection Office in cooperation with the University of Warsaw and the Social Team of Experts to the President of the Personal Data Protection Office.

Traditionally, during the celebration of the Day, the Michał Serzycki Award will be presented. The award ceremony will take place in February 2025.

As part of the 19th Personal Data Protection Day, many events accompanying the celebration of this holiday have been planned.

  • 7.01.2025 An open letter from the President of the Personal Data Protection Office to the participants of the 15th edition of the nationwide educational program of the Personal Data Protection Office "Your data – your concern", with an invitation for schools to actively participate in the celebration of the 19th Personal Data Protection Day.
  • 13.01.2025 Meeting with students of Kozminski University at the seat of the Personal Data Protection Office in Warsaw, with the participation of Agnieszka Grzelak, Deputy President of the Personal Data Protection Office and colleagues.
  • 16.01.2025 Ceremony of signing an memorandum of understanding between the President of the Personal Data Protection Office and the President of the Management Board of the Polish Legislative Society on cooperation to promote the principles of personal data protection in the professional activity of legislators, in the law-making process.
  • 20.01.2025 "Personal Data Protection Day" conference. Organiser: "ABI Expert" editors of the quarterly. The opening speech of the conference will be delivered by Mirosław Wróblewski, President of the Personal Data Protection Office (https://odo.abi-expert.pl/).
  • 24.01.2025 The lecture entitled The process of monitoring technological progress as an element of accountability for the application of the principle of data protection by design and data protection by default will be conducted by Mariola Więckowska, a member of the Social Team of Experts to the President of the Personal Data Protection Office. This is the second in a series of lectures on "Data Protection and Technology", during which invited experts discuss selected issues at the interface of new technologies and personal data protection. A link to the broadcast will be made available on the website of the Personal Data Protection Office.
  • 27.01.2025 the ceremony of signing an agreement between the President of the Personal Data Protection Office and the President of the Government Legislation Centre on cooperation to promote the principles of personal data protection in legislative practice, education in the area of law-making taking into account the issues of personal data protection, as well as the exchange of experience and good practices related to the education of lawyers in this area.
  • 28.01.2025 The webinar for parents as part of the educational program "Your data – your concern" will be hosted by Weronika Kowalik, Head of the Legislation Unit at the Law and New Technologies Department of the Personal Data Protection Office. The webinar aims to make parents aware of how to wisely support children in the digital world in the area of personal data protection and privacy.
  • 29.01.2025 Online conference Data Protection Officer Day 2025. The opening speech will be given by Konrad Komornicki, Deputy President of the Personal Data Protection Office, while Jacek Młotkiewicz, Inspections and Breaches Department, will give a presentation entitled "The role of the DPO in the process of notifying personal data breaches"
  • 30-31.01.2025 The action of the President of the Personal Data Protection Office in the series "the Personal Data Protection Office on tour across Poland – Pomeranian Voivodeship" – meetings with residents and provincial and local government authorities, devoted to the protection of personal data in the activities of local government units.
    • January 30, 2025 Conference at the Stanisław Staszic School Complex No. 1 in Kwidzyn and the consultation and information point of the Personal Data Protection Office for the local community;
    • 31 January 2025 Tri-City - meeting with controllers and DPO from local government units of the Pomeranian Voivodeship and the consultation and information point of the Personal Data Protection Office in the City Halls in Gdańsk and Gdynia.
  • 6.02.2025 11th Open Day of the Personal Data Protection Office at the WSB University in Dąbrowa Górnicza. As part of this event, a thematic conference on issues related to new technologies, artificial intelligence and cybersecurity will be held, which will be attended by experts from the Personal Data Protection Office.
  • 27.03.2025 National Scientific Conference on Personal Data Protection. The organisers of the event are: the Cybercrime Research Centre, Faculty of Law and Administration, Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń, the Student Scientific Club for Personal Data Protection, the Student Scientific Club for Public International Law and Human Rights Protection. The expert panel entitled "GDPR after 7 years of application: Conclusions and perspectives" will be attended by Mirosław Wróblewski, President of the Personal Data Protection Office and Monika Krasińska, Director of the Law and New Technologies Department. In addition, the President of the Personal Data Protection Office will open the conference together with the Dean of the Faculty of Law and Administration of the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń, Prof. Arkadiusz Lach, and the President of the Student Scientific Club for Personal Data Protection, Mikołaj Brzostowicz.
