Business must take data protection rules into account
The Deputy President of the Personal Data Protection Office participated in the 15th edition of the European Financial Congress in Sopot on June 2-4, 2025.
The European Financial Congress, organised by the Credit Information Bureau, is one of the most important events dedicated to the future of the financial sector and economy in Europe. The Congress also serves as a forum for exchanging views on the stability of the European and Polish financial systems and for developing recommendations on systemic solutions for safe and sustainable development.
The event was attended by Konrad Komornicki, Deputy President of the Personal Data Protection Office, who participated as a panelist in the debate entitled “Data is the new oil: citizen protection, business development, economic growth.” In his speech, he emphasised the importance of responsible data use and the need to protect citizens from abuse. He also drew attention to the need for a balanced approach that would enable the development of innovative business models while ensuring high standards of data protection. He also pointed out that transparent regulations protecting the privacy and security of citizens are essential to enable the sustainable development of a data-driven economy and cooperation between different sectors.
The debate also touched upon key issues related to the role of personal data as a resource supporting economic development, privacy protection, customer safety, and regulatory barriers in the area of cross-sector data exchange.
The congress brought together representatives of banks, financial institutions, investment funds, consulting firms, government officials, and non-governmental organisations. This year's financial industry meeting was dominated by topics such as geopolitics, competitiveness, banking, finance and energy transition, artificial intelligence, and new technologies.
Participation in the congress is a unique opportunity to help shape the future of the financial sector in Europe, broaden your perspective, build relationships, and work towards a more responsible and innovative economy.
