#DataProtectionLessons: on the trail of personal data

“Data Protection Day Agency - a mythological intervention” is the topic of a webinar for students conducted on 26 January 2023 by a teacher from the Adam Mickiewicz Primary School No. 4 in Lublin as part of the #DataProtectionLessons series.

- 'Today's class introduces students to the topic of personal data protection and the right to privacy in the world of Greek mythology, which will allow them to better understand the importance of these issues from the point of view of  an individual’s well-being, as well as emphasise the universality and timelessness of this topic,' said Marta Mikołajczyk, coordinator of the educational programme “Your Data – Your Concern”.

During the meeting, students played the role of a detective, solving a criminal mystery. The investigation was divided into several stages. After each of them, the pupils had the opportunity to test their knowledge of Greek mythology, as well as to recognise how correctly they were analysing facts and making inferences based on the available information.

The plot of the game is a modern version of the myth of Sisyphus enriched with data protection and privacy rights content. Thanks to the original idea of presenting and explaining concepts in the field of personal data protection and the activating formula of the meeting, young people were able to assimilate a lot of practical information that can help them protect their personal data on a daily basis.

The lesson was addressed to students of classes VII and VIII of primary schools and students of secondary schools participating in the 13th edition of the educational programme "Your Data - Your Concern". Additionally, the webinar is one of the events organised as part of this year's Data Protection Day celebrations.

The purpose of the #DataProtectionLessons series organised by the Personal Data Protection Office is to spread knowledge about privacy and personal data protection among young people.
