Internal Market Information System (IMI)

About IMI

The Internal Market Information System (IMI) is a secure, multilingual online service that allows public authorities involved in the implementation of EU legislation to exchange information. IMI helps public authorities to fulfil their international cooperation obligations in many areas relating to the simple market.

Currently, Member States use IMI for 67 administrative cooperation procedures in 17 different policy areas. With nonsignificant effort, the system can be developed and adapted to meet the communication needs of further policy areas. IMI has succeeded in modernising administrative international cooperation and ensuring the efficient functioning of the simple market. While the end-users of IMI are national public authorities, the beneficiaries of more efficient cooperation are enterprises and consumers.
